Chronology of cameras Sakura Seiki
Considered the world's smallest camera by the Guinness Book of Records, this 90-gram camera measures 2.7 cm in diameter with a depth of 1.5 cm. It can take six round photos on a film cut to a diameter of 2.5 cm. Equipped with a fixed-focus 12mm lens with an aperture of 5.6, it features a tiny external viewfinder. The shutter offers instant mode at 1/50 and a Bulb setting, without a film advance or double exposure prevention mechanism.
The model presented is engraved with "MIOJ" on the back, which stands for "Made in Occupied Japan." During the period from the end of the war to 1951, the USA mandated this marking on all Japanese products exported in place of the traditional "Made In Japan."
Changing the view is achieved by turning an external dial, which also indicates the current frame number and serves as a frame counter.
The documentation, delivered in a wooden box, is unique in that it fits on a single page printed on rice paper.
Two other octagonal models also exist, one engraved with "Sakura Petal," and the other, a very rare variant, is engraved with Evarax A.
